BDXV's Chief Wine Officer Henning Thoresen alongside head of wine making at Château Mouton Rothschild, Mr. Philippe Dalhuin witnessed history when US auction house Acker, Merrall and Condit put up some rare wines for auction in Hong Kong on Saturday 31 May.
It was great excitement in the room when lots 463 and 464 was ready to be hammered and never before have a case of Bordeaux wine sold for this much in an Asian auction. The bidders responded with a big round of applause for an important milestone in the marketing efforts and brand positioning of Château Mouton Rothschild in Asia.
US auction house Acker, Merrall and Condit sold rare and collectible wines for more than 64 million Hong Kong dollars (US$ 8.2/€5,2 million) in an all-day auction that finished late on Saturday 31st May at The Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong. The sale smashed pre-auction expectations of 50 million Hong Kong dollars, and broke the previous record for any wine auction ever held in Asia.
We congratulate all at Château Mouton Rothschild with a fantastic achievement!

Mr. John Kapon, Acker Merrall and Condit's president and auction director in tireless action hammering a total of 922 lots at a value of more than 64 million Hong Kong dollars!
